Marksmeier hopes to bring new energy to Trackside District

Joe Marksmeier has been named the newest board member to the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) Board. Marksmeier accepting the early April appointment.

Marksmeier and his wife, Carmen, are the parents of five children and own a building along 13th Street just east of Dusters Restaurant. That building houses their respective businesses, Inked Screen Printing & Apparel and Polished Salon and Spa.

As the BID Board continues to take steps in hopes of revitalizing the Trackside District, Marksmeier said he felt compelled to step up and join it when a position opened.

Marksmeier is a self-proclaimed talker who isn’t afraid to ask tough questions and seek facts.

“I think there is a lot of potential with downtown that hasn’t been met in the last 30 to 40 years, and I think the time is right with what we’re doing now with the BID Board to bring that back,” said Marksmeier.

Marksmeier is proud to represent his fellow business and property owners on the board, noting he will make sure money is being spent properly and do what he can to make the Trackside District a destination in Columbus.

“My ideas might not always align with every other board member, but I think that’s what we need,” Marksmeier said. “We don’t need a bunch of yes-men and yes-women. If we don’t have different opinions, we’re not going to have good conversations and things aren’t going to go the way we want them to go. I want downtown to meet its potential.”
