Sidewalk Improvements Near Completion

A Step Toward a Safer Downtown

Exciting changes are taking shape in the Trackside District-Downtown Columbus, as the sidewalk improvement project on 11th Street between 23rd Avenue and 24th Avenue nears completion. This much needed upgrade also includes the connecting segments along 23rd Avenue up to the alley, and it's all part of a broader effort to make downtown Columbus a more accessible, walkable and visually vibrant destination.

This project is made possible thanks to a Downtown Revitalization Grant awarded to the City of Columbus, specifically designated for removing and replacing ADA barriers. These updates ensure safer, easier navigation for pedestrians, including those using wheelchairs, walkers or strollers.

Improved Safety and Functionality

Beyond accessibility, the project addresses critical pedestrian safety concerns by removing damaged and uneven sidewalk sections, The new sidewalk not only looks better but also provides a smooth, consistent surface that enhances daily use for walkers, joggers, and those just out enjoying the district.

A Greener, More Inviting Downtown

Another exciting component of the project is the addition of landscaped areas featuring native plants and trees. These green spaces, to be planted after the contractor hands over the project to the city, will beautify the streetscape. The result will be a more welcoming and comfortable downtown for everyone.

A Worthwhile Investment

With a project cost of approximately $153,000, this infrastructure upgrade represents a strategic investment in the long-term vitality of downtown Columbus. Enhancing walkability, safety, and aesthetics creates a space where residents, visitors and local businesses can be proud of and thrive.
