Business Spotlight: Columbus in Action
Bringing Innovation, Collaboration and Energy to the Trackside District
Columbus in Action isn't just a name. It's the driving force behind some of the most creative, community minded transformation in downtown Columbus. What began in 2017 as a grassroots initiative to launch the city's BikeShare Program has grown into a full fledged movement dedicated to innovation, collaboration and revitalization.
Humble Beginnings with a Big Vision
Columbus in Action was born out of a desire to bring accessible, sustainable transportation to Columbus through the BikeShare Program. That small idea opened the door to a bigger mission: to activate downtown spaces, support local growth and bring the community together through engaging projects and events.
Their core pillars are Innovation, Renovation and Collaboration and they continue to shape every project they take on.
Making a Mark: The Columbus Innovation Center
One of the group's biggest milestones was the opening of the Columbus Innovation Center in 2023, located on 14th Street. Originally one of Columbus in Actions' first renovation efforts, the building now serves as a flexible rental and event space for meetings, parties, pop-ups and more.
It's not just a venue. It's a place where people and ideas connect.
From Pickleball Courts to Picklefest
Columbus in Action was instrumental in bringing Columbus' first pickleball courts to the community, and their love of fun and movement doesn't stop there.
This summer, they hosted Picklefest 2025, a community celebration packed with 40+ vendors, all day music, games and family-friendly activities. The event brought people downtown in droves and highlighted just how much life and vibrancy can be packed into a single day.
Dreaming Big: Restoring the Historic Downtown Theater
Perhaps the most ambitious Columbus in Action project to date is the renovation of the Historic Downtown Theater. Now in the silent phase of an $8.3 million capital campaign, this effort aims to blend timeless charm with state-of-the-art technology and innovative seating.
Once complete, the theater will be a major cultural anchor in Downtown Columbus, offering exciting new possibilities for events, film, music and community engagement.
Second Tuesday Networking Nights
If you're looking to connect with like minded locals and movers and shakers in Columbus, don't miss the monthly networking gatherings hosted by Columbus in Action.
Held every second Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Innovation Center, these events feature guest speakers and activities that help people build relationships, share ideas and stay involved in the momentum of downtown growth.
Looking to the Future
Columbus in Action is always dreaming bigger. Their plans include launching more unique events, expanding community collaboration, and unlocking new potential for Downtown Columbus. Especially once the theater is up and running.
They also plan to continue supporting downtown businesses, enhancing event offerings, and serving as a catalyst for positive change in the community.
Working Together to Build a Better Downtown
Collaboration is at the heart of everything they do. Columbus in Action works closely with a wide range of local businesses and organizations, sharing resources, ideas and support to bring projects to life.
Whether it's launching new programs, restoring historic spaces, or hosting public events, they've seen firsthand how strong partnerships fuel transformation.
