A Passion for Music, Rooted in Community

Vázquez Music Studio was born out of both a love story and a love for teaching. Owners Oscar and Krista met while working on their doctorates in music at UNL. After moving to Columbus in 2022 for Krista's position at Central Community College, Oscar began laying the foundation for his dream of opening his own music studio. With the support of Columbus Music and St. Bon's Catholic Church, he was able to being teaching piano locally, steadily growing his student base.

In spring 2024, Oscar received a GROW Nebraska grant of $30,000 to open a dedicated studio space. Just a few months later, in August 2024, Vázquez Music Studio officially opened its doors in the basement of Pioneer Plaza, a perfect location that's both welcoming and central to downtown Columbus.

Inspiration & Services

Oscar's lifelong passion is teaching and sparking a love of music in others. With years of experience teaching for other studios, he was ready to create something of his own for the Columbus community. Currently, the studio offers piano lessons for all ages and skill levels, with plans to expand to other instruments by hiring additional teachers. Students can also take advantage of free trial lessons year-round making it east to try before committing.

Community Connections

Vázquez Music Studio is more than just lessons, it's about community. Oscar and Krista stay actively involved in Columbus through collaborations with:

  • Centro Hispano, where Oscar has led workshops and played during Posadas
  • Central Community College Fine Arts, supporting the local arts scene
  • St. Bon's Catholic Church, where Oscar frequently plays music

They also partner with Pioneer Plaza businesses during annual events like the Downtown Stroll and maintain a supportive relationship with Columbus Music, creating a helpful circle of resources for local musicians.

Looking Ahead

The future is bright for Vázquez Music Studio. Plans include expanding to summer "camp-style" week-long programs and offering instruction in additional instruments. By bringing more families into Pioneer Plaza, they contribute to the growth and visibility of downtown businesses while fostering a stronger arts culture in the community.
