Rising Through the Storm: The Art of Patrice Wielgus
Finding Strength in Reflection
Columbus artist Patrice Wielgus brings deeply personal meaning to her pieces featured in Unbroken: The Art of Survival. Through her art, Patrice channels her past experiences into visual stories of healing, growth, and self-acceptance. Each piece reflects the emotional journey from chaos to calm - an honest portrayal of what it means to endure and emerge stronger.
The Storm Has Passed
Patrice's piece The Storm Has Passed captures the emotional turbulence of her past. "In my past, the house would be disrupted by a 'storm'. It seemed to come out of nowhere and then we were supposed to go on like it didn't happen," she shares. Today, the people who brought those storms are no longer part of her life - a testament to her resilience and peace. "The storm has passed."
White Flower
In White Flower, Patrice explores the lingering effects of trauma and the beauty that can still emerge from pain. "The background shows the chaos of my past. The white flower shows I have carried on, but the scars remain," she explains. The imperfect hues within the flower symbolize how healing carried traces of what was endured yet remains something beautiful and strong.
A Journey of Healing and Creativity
Patrice's art stands as a reminder that survival is not about erasing the past, but transforming it. Through color, contrast and courage, she offers a message of hope: even in life's most broken moments, beauty and renewal can bloom. Patrice works in a variety of mediums, including acrylics, watercolor, drawings, and mixed media, creating original pieces that reflect both emotion and resilience.
