"The Storm" -- A Powerful New Mural by Local Veteran Artist Dillon Krueger

A New Symbol of Strength in Downtown Columbus

Downtown Columbus has a new landmark that's stirring hearts and turning heads. The newest mural in the Trackside District, titled "The Storm" was created by Columbus native Dillon Krueger, an artist, author, illustrator, father, husband, and U.S. Army veteran whose service in Afghanistan profoundly shaped his artistic vision.

Located on the side of Ski's Bar & Grill along 11th Street, The Storm depicts a bold and resilient American flag caught in a fierce storm. Despite the chaos around it, the flag remains vibrant and unbroken. It's a powerful symbol of endurance and unity that feels especially meaningful today.

The Meaning Behind "The Storm"

Dillon shared this on his Real Patriot Publishing Facebook page  about his inspiration:

"It is an honor to finally share my latest completed project titled The Storm. The mural is located in Columbus, NE, and since it is the town I was born and raised in, I knew it had to be something special. Little did I know the concept of this piece could not have been more relevant today as our country has been experiencing many tragic events.

This turned out to be the most intense flag I have ever painted. The flag is caught up in a great storm but it is not torn or faded. It is resilient and vibrant because the American flag is not just made with paint on a brush or pieces of fabric sewn together. It is made of something much greater. It symbolizes all of the hopes and sacrifices of great American patriots who have come before us. While these seem to be uncertain times, the American flag will weather any storm."

Service That Never Ends

Dillon's artistic journey is guided by duty, honor and continued service. Values that have remained with him since his time in the Army. His experiences overseas gave him a profound appreciation for what the flag represents, and through his art, he continues to serve by fostering connection and reflection within his community.

"When you take an oath to serve, you never stop serving your country. You're a veteran forever. Your efforts remain the same: honor those who have fallen and their families," said Krueger.

Art That Connects and Honors

For Dillon, art is more than expression. It's a mission to remind others of the values, sacrifices and freedoms that define the American experience. Through each piece, he continues to reflect, honor, and serve.

A Legacy in the Making

Many in Columbus may already recognize Dillon's work. His murals can be found at Reg's 7 Mile Steakhouse, inside Micek's Bar and at Bo's West. Earlier this year, the Trax Creative District was proud to feature his artwork in the Columbus Art Gallery and he was also featured in the September edition of Columbus Champions for his artistic and community contributions.

See "The Storm" for Yourself

The Storm stands as more than a mural. It's a message of perseverance and pride, a reflection of both our community's strength and the enduring spirit of our nation.

Take a drive down 11th Street by Ski's Bar & Grill to see this stunning new mural for yourself and experience the emotion and craftsmanship that Dillon has brought home to Columbus.
