Forged Field Artist Spotlight: Meet Carri Mattan

A Creative Journey Rooted in the Midwest

Carri Mattan is a multi-talented artist based in David City whose creative journey blends the time honored traditions of painting with a newer passion for photography. A dedicated member of the Columbus Area Artists since 2008, Carrie has spent years honing her artistic voice through landscapes, still life and impressionist pieces that celebrate the quiet elegance of the Midwest.

Finding Inspiration in Everyday Beauty

In the last few years, Carri has added photography to her artistic repertoire, capturing moments that reflect the same thoughtful eye and appreciation for beauty that define her paintings. Whether working with a brush or behind the lens, her goal remains the same: to create work that is both inspiring and a little unexpected. This offers a fresh perspective on the familiar surroundings of rural life.

Though her art, Carri draws attention to the subtle wonder of the world around us, accentuating the land's natural grace with both color and composition. Her work invites viewers to pause, take notice, and find inspiration in the everyday landscapes of the Midwest.

Carri's art along with seven other artists selected for the Forged Fields: The Art of Agriculture exhibition will be on display in the Columbus Community Gallery located on the second floor of the Columbus Community Building, 2500 14th St from now until July 31.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m.
