Help Create Columbus' Newest Community Mural
A Community Art Project Takes Shape
A new piece of public art is coming to Columbus and community members have the opportunity to help bring it to life.
The Trax Creative District, in collaboration with the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class #34, is creating a new mural on the west wall of the It's All Fun n Games building, located at 1158 26th Ave. The mural will add another vibrant and welcoming artistic feature to Columbus while showcasing the creativity and community spirit that continues to grow throughout the city.
Painting on the mural will begin on Monday, June 1, with work expected to continue through mid-June. Community volunteers are invited to participate throughout the project and a variety of painting shifts are available to accommodate different schedules.
The mural project is another example of the partnership that continue to strengthen Columbus through art, leadership and community engagement. By bringing together volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, the project reflects the spirit of collaboration that helps make Columbus a vibrant place to shop, explore and experience.
Leave Your Make on Columbus
One of the most exciting aspects of public art is the opportunity for residents to become part of the creative process. Whether you have artistic experience or have never picked up a paintbrush before, volunteers are welcome to help paint sections of the mural under the guidance of mural artist Kim Darling and project organizers.
Public art projects do more than beautify spaces. They create opportunities for people to connect, collaborate and take pride in their community. Years from now, volunteers will be able to walk by the finished mural and proudly tell friends and family, "I helped make that mural."
Those interested in volunteering can sign up for available painting shifts using the sign-up form linked below. If you can't stay for the entire shift that's fine too. With work continuing into mid-June, there are plenty of opportunities to find a time that fits your schedule.
We hope you'll join us in creating a lasting piece of public art for Columbus and help transform a blank wall into something the entire community can enjoy for years to come.
