Business Spotlight: Lavender Thyme

From a Small Corner to a Downtown Treasure

Nearly 20 years ago, Lavender Thyme blossomed in a small front-space nook of Pioneer Plaza, 2402 13th Street. With the support of her two sisters, Linda Sutton opened the doors to what would become a beloved fixture in downtown Columbus.

When Choppers Computer later relocated further west on 13th Street, Linda moved into her current cozy spot where the shop's charm and character truly took root.

Linda's sisters eventually stepped away (It's a long story, and I am stronger for the survival," Linda shares), but Linda carried the business forward with resilience and heart.

The Art of Curating Childhood Magic

Linda pours countless hours into finding quality, unique and affordable toys and gifts that spark wonder in infants and children.

Her shelves reflect a deep commitment to American-made and when she finds Nebraska-made, it's a special win.

Believing firmly that "we need to keep books in our children's hands," she also stocks a beautiful collection of classic and Christian children's books that families treasure.

A Heart That Gives Back

Community service is woven into everything Linda does. She proudly serves as the President of the Columbus Noon Lions Club, supports the Center for Survivors, sponsors the iDance Project, and gives generously to local charities.

She also stewards a registered Little Free Library in Pioneer Plaza -- an open invitation for anyone to take a book, leave a book and share the joy of reading.

Spreading Joy, One Promotion at a Time

Throughout the year, Lavender Thyme participates in fun promotions alongside 13th Street Again, while also offering its own special sales and seasonal discounts.

Linda's mission is simple: continue serving the downtown community with the high level of care, connection and quality her customers have come to trust.

Looking ahead, she hopes to introduce a new, informative website, but for now, shoppers can follow the latest updates on Facebook (Lavender Thyme) and Instagram.

Celebrating Life's Sacred Moments

Lavender Thyme is well-known for offering the largest selection of Christening and Baptism apparel, accessories and gifts in the area.

This winter, the shop's specialty collection will expand as First Communion dresses and accessories debut in mid-January, giving families even more reasons to stop in.

The Team Behind the Magic

While Linda is the heart of the shop, her husband Terry is the steady hands behind the scenes -- her loyal Mr. Fix-It and current BLT (Bending, Lifting & Twisting) guy as she recovers from her sixth back surgery. Always watching her "like a hawk," he's quick to catch her when she tries to do more than she should.

And of course, no Lavender Thyme purchase is complete without the shop's signature pastel "little birdies" gift bags -- a familiar sight at baby showers and children's celebrations across the community.

A Shop Rooted in Love, Resilience & Community

Levander Thyme is more than a store. It's a heartfelt chapter of downtown Columbus. Through Linda's unwavering dedication, community spirit, and belief in the wonder of childhood, the shop continues to brighten families' lives year after year.
