Business Spotlight: Big Pals-Little Pals of Greater Columbus

Last Updated 7/17/2025Posted in Business Spotlight

Nestled in the Trackside District, Big Pals-Little Pals (BPLP) of Greater Columbus is more than just a mentoring organization. It's a place where meaningful connections are made, lives are changed and community roots run deep.

A Legacy of Mentorship

Founded in 1972, BPLP began as a Big Brothers agency serving boys without a father figure. Over time, the program expanded to include girls, and in 1988, the name officially changed to Big Pals-Little Pals of Greater Columbus. By 2019, their mission had broadened even further now serving all children, regardless of family structure or background, making their impact even more inclusive.

The Heart Behind the Mission

What inspired the creation of BPLP? Simply put - helping children in need thrive. The organization pairs children with caring, supportive adult mentors through professionally supported relationships. These mentorships not only offer guidance and encouragement but also open the door to new interests, experiences and fun!

BPLP offers:

  •      One-on-one mentoring, where mentors meet weekly with their mentees
  •      Monthly group match activities which include fun and educational experiences for all participants.

Five Years in Downtown

Although BPLP has served the Columbus Community for decades, they've been proudly located in the downtown district for the past five years moving to their current space in October 2022. The formerly vacant building has been transformed into a welcoming hub for activity and connection

Supporting the Community

BPLP is a familiar face at many community events, including: Downtown Trick-or-Treat, Columbus Days (booths & parades), Movie Nights with Park & Rec, Sundaes in the Square, Farmer's Market booth and Upcoming Beats & Eats.

They've also collaborated with local businesses to host fundraisers driving traffic and bringing new faces to restaurants, shops and venues.

Looking Ahead

BPLP has big plans for the future. Their hope is to:

  • Expand the number of mentors and mentees
  • Continue building community connections
  • Stay rooted in the community for years to come

They're always looking for new members to join their cause. With many children currently on the waiting list, there's a real opportunity for caring adults to step up and make a lasting difference.
