Business Spotlight: Home Revival by CK
A Family Legacy of Creativity
For Crystal Klug, working with furniture and creating art has always been a part of life. Growing up, she watched her dad Jeff, bring woodworking projects to life and paint fun imaginative pieces. Her grandfather also inspired her with his craftmanship, building beautiful grandfather clocks that are still admired today. Surrounded by creativity, Crystal developed her own love for art in all its forms, from painting to furniture restoration.
From the Farm to Downtown Columbus
For years, Crystal worked on her furniture projects out of the family farm. But as anyone who's been around a feedlot knows, it's not always the easiest place to work, especially when trying to paint or finish wood pieces. Now that her three children are in college, she decided it was the perfect time to take her passion to the next level. The search for a new location led her to downtown Columbus, where she found the ideal space to grow her dream.
Shop, Customize or Create Something New
At Home Revival by CK, customers can shop for unique furniture pieces "as is" or collaborate with Crystal to create the perfect finished look. She also welcomes people to bring in their own furniture to be repaired or refinished.
Her goal is to offer a range of price points, making it easy for everyone, from college students to homeowners, to find something special. Much of her inventory comes from thrifty finds and generous donations of wood furniture from friends, family and the local community.
Honoring the History of Brody's
When Crystal purchased the Brody's building, she instantly knew she wanted to restore its charm. "I wanted to go back to the original look, or as close as I could get," she shared. Hours of work and attention to detail have paid off and even members of the Bordy family have stopped by to see the transformation. The building now reflects its rich history while serving as the perfect home of Crystal's artistic vision.
Supporting Local Artists
One of Crystal's proudest accomplishments is the art area within Home Revival by CK. Here, local artists including high school students can sell their work. Students are invited to display and sell their art commission-free, giving them an opportunity to share their creativity with the community. "It's something I wish I had growing up," Crystal said. "I want to give young artists that chance."
Balancing Family, Farming and a New Adventure
While her business is blossoming, Crystal remains deeply rooted in family life. "I won't have set hours because being a mom and farm wife comes first," she explained. She plans to be open five to six days a week, with adjusted hours during planting and harvest season, and welcomes visitors by appointment anytime.
