Community Partnerships Keep Columbus Moving Forward

Sometimes, making a difference in a community isn't about starting something new. Sometimes, it's about taking care of what we already have.

A thriving community doesn't happen by accident. It takes engaged organizations, dedicated volunteers, supportive businesses, and individuals who care enough to step forward and make a difference. It's these partnerships, both large and small, that help Columbus continue to grow, improve, and preserve the things that make our community special.

A wonderful example of that commitment can be found right here in the Trackside District – Downtown Columbus.

Preserving a Piece of Columbus History

The Discovering the Colorful History of Columbus mural was created by artist and designer David Reiser to commemorate Columbus' Sesquicentennial in 2006, celebrating 150 years of our community's history.

Measuring an impressive 26 feet high and 84 feet wide, the mural tells the story of Columbus through layers of time. From the city's founding in 1856 to the arrival of the railroad, the influence of Buffalo Bill, and the development of local industry, the artwork offers a visual journey through the people and events that shaped our community.

But there's more to the mural than what first meets the eye.

An interpretive sign located near the mural helps visitors understand the historical significance of its many images and symbols. The original sign was generously donated by the Columbus Morning Rotary Club, helping residents and visitors appreciate the stories behind this remarkable piece of public art.

Over the years, however, exposure to the elements had taken its toll. The sign had become extremely worn and increasingly difficult to read, making it harder for visitors to discover the history represented in the mural.

Stepping Up Once Again

When the need arose to replace the deteriorating sign, the Columbus Morning Rotary Club stepped forward once again, generously donating a new interpretive sign.

Thanks to their continued support, residents, visitors, and future generations can once again explore the mural's many details and learn more about the history of Columbus.

It's a thoughtful investment in preserving our community's story and ensuring that an important piece of downtown's public art remains an educational experience for years to come.

The Power of Community Partnerships

This is what makes Columbus special.

Throughout our community, organizations like Columbus Morning Rotary, local businesses, civic groups, volunteers, and countless individuals quietly contribute their time, talents, and resources to make Columbus a better place.

Not every contribution comes with a ribbon-cutting ceremony or a major announcement. Sometimes, it's replacing a weathered sign, planting flowers, maintaining a public space, or simply recognizing a need and doing something about it.

These efforts may seem small individually, but together they make a lasting difference.

They demonstrate that community pride isn't just something we talk about. It's something we put into action.

Thank You, Columbus Morning Rotary!

To the members of the Columbus Morning Rotary Club, thank you for your generosity, your continued commitment to Columbus, and your willingness to step up when something needs to be done.

Your contribution does more than replace a sign. It helps preserve our history, celebrates our community's heritage, and provides an opportunity for future generations to learn about the place we call home.

We encourage everyone to take a stroll through the Trackside District, visit the Sesquicentennial mural, and spend a few moments exploring the stories that helped shape Columbus.

Because when organizations and individuals work together, great things happen.

It really does take a village. And we're fortunate to have so many people and organizations willing to be part of ours.
