Lighting the Future of Frankfort Square

Exciting progress is underway in downtown as work begins on the permanent lighting project at Frankfort Square -- a project that will enhance one of the community's most recognizable public spaces.

This new lighting installation designed and being constructed by Commonwealth Electric Company will bring added vibrancy, safety and visual appeal to the Square. The project will feature programmable, color-changing LED lighting lining the diagonal walkways inside the Square as well as highlight several key elements in the park including the murals on the band shell and along the east side of the Square, the center park monument and the flag pole. The lighting system will allow for flexibility to match seasons, holidays and special events.

Even better, construction is being planned thoughtfully to avoid disruption to events and activities already taking place in the space, ensuring the Square remains an active hub throughout the process.

A Community-Funded Effort

This exciting project is truly a community investment. The Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to share the project has received a generous $25,000 donation from an anonymous donor, along with over $4,000 in support from Commonwealth Electric Company.

The BID is funding the remaining balance of the project using assessments collected from properties within the district, reinforcing the shared commitment of downtown stakeholders to continue improving and enhancing public spaces.

Looking Ahead

Once complete, the new lighting will not only elevate the look and feel of Frankfort Square, but also create new opportunities for community engagement whether through themed lighting displays, special event enhancements or simply making the space more inviting year-round.

With completion anticipated ahead of major community events, the upgraded lighting will be a bright new addition to downtown -- literally and figuratively.

Stay tuned as this project comes to life and helps illuminate the Trackside District!
