Community Mural Reaches Detail Week
The community mural on the It's All Fun n Games building continues to make incredible progress and this week marks an exciting new phase in the project -- detail week!
All last week, volunteers have helped bring the mural's colorful foundation to life by filling in large sections of the design. Now artist Kim Darling, her assistant Raiannalyn and project organizers are focusing on the finer details that make the artwork truly stand out. From outlines and shading to the smaller design elements that bring depth and character to the piece, this stage of the project requires a higher level of precision and attention to detail.
Because of the specialized nature of the work ahead, organizers are asking that paint volunteers be 16 years of age or older moving forward. The detailed painting process requires steady hands, patience and the ability to carefully follow the artist's instructions to ensure the final mural reflect the vision for the project.
A Community Effort
The mural has already become a source of excitement and pride throughout Columbus. Volunteers, businesses, organizations and community members have all played a role in helping transform the wall into a vibrant work of public art. Countless people have stopped by to watch the progress, ask questions, and offer words of encouragement, demonstrating just how much this project means to the community.
The mural, is a collaborative effort led by artist Kim Darling and supported by the Trax Creative District, Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraska Cultural Endowment, Keep Columbus Beautiful, Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class 34, area businesses, organizations and community volunteers. Once completed, it will serve as a lasting reminder of what can be accomplished when creativity, collaboration and community pride come together.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, donated and supported the project so far. As the finishing touches begin to emerge, we look forward to sharing more updates and revealing the completed mural in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned -- the best details are yet to come!
