Downtown in Full Bloom
A Partnership that Keeps the Trackside District Looking Its Best
If you have spent any time in the Trackside District this summer, chances are you have noticed the beautiful planters lining our downtown streets. And if you haven't taken a close look lately, you really should!
The planters are absolutely thriving this year, overflowing with vibrant flowers, bold foliage and plenty of color. They add a welcoming touch to our sidewalks and are one of those details that help make downtown Columbus an attractive place to dine, shop, explore and experience.
A Partnership That Continues to Grow
The downtown planters are a beautification and revitalization project of the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). What started with 15 planters has grown over the last two years to 30 planters strategically placed throughout the district.
An important part of the project's success has been our partnership with the Central Community College Agricultural Sciences Department, which provides the growing expertise, care and ongoing maintenance needed to keep the planters looking their best throughout the seasons.
From selecting and planting flowers to watering, maintaining and caring for them throughout the summer, a lot of work goes into what you see when you walk downtown.
And judging by how they look right now, that hard work is definitely paying off!
It's the Little Things that Make a Difference
Beautification projects may seem like a small piece of the overall work happening downtown, but they can have a big impact.
Colorful flowers and well-maintained public spaces help create a downtown that feels cared for and welcoming. They enhance the experience for those who live and work here every day while also helping us put our best foot forward for visitors exploring Columbus.
Projects like this are also a great example of what can happen when local organizations work together. The BID has continued to invest in improvements throughout the Trackside District and partnerships like the one with CCC Agricultural Sciences help make those invest even more successful.
Thank You, CCC Agricultural Sciences!
We want to give a special thank you to Wade Hilker, the staff and students of the Central Community College Agricultural Sciences Department for the time, attention and care they give our downtown planters.
Your work is noticed and appreciated and downtown Columbus looks better because of it.
The next time you're walking through the Trackside District, slow down for a minute and take a closer look at the planters. Better yet, snap a picture of your favorite one!
Sometimes it's the little touches that help make a place feel special and this summer, downtown Columbus is definitely in full bloom!
