Help Shape Downtown Columbus -- Business Improvement Board Vacancy
Are you passionate about Downtown Columbus and interested in helping guide its continued growth and improvements?
The City of Columbus is seeking an individual interested in filling a vacancy on the Business Improvement Board, which helps guide the work of the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).
The BID was created to strengthen and improve the downtown experience and help maintain a vibrant, thriving district. Its work can include beautification and streetscape improvements, lighting, signage, public art, marketing and promotion, events, parking improvements and other projects that enhance Downtown Columbus.
Board members have an opportunity to help identify priorities and provide direction for projects and initiatives supported through the BID. Current committee areas include marketing, business and economic development, project management and physical grounds.
The vacancy follows the resignation of Kiara Ziemba, owner of Transcendence Salon & MedSpa, who has served on the Business Improvement Board since her appointment by the Mayor and City Council on February 5, 2024.
We sincerely thank Kiara for the time, ideas and perspective she has contributed during her service to Downtown Columbus.
The individual selected to fill the vacancy will complete Kiara's current term, which expires in February 2027.
A Great Way to Get Your Feet Wet
This is a great opportunity for someone who has considered getting more involved in the community but isn't sure about making a long-term commitment. The next several months provides a chance to experience board service firsthand, learn more about the BID and its work, and help shape projects and priorities for Downtown.
And February doesn't necessarily have to be the end. When the current term expires, the person serving in the position could be considered for reappointment if they are interested in continuing to serve.
The Business Improvement Board includes property owners, residents and business owners within the Downtown Business Improvement District. Serving on the board provides an opportunity to bring your ideas and experience to the table while helping influence decisions affecting the future of downtown.
Interested in serving?
Individuals interested in the position should complete the City of Columbus Citizen Board, Committee and Commission Expression of Interest Form and selected "Business Improvement Board".
Completed forms may be submitted to the City Clerk at 2500 14 Street, Suite 3, mailed to P.O. Box 1677, Columbus, NE 68602-1677 or email to [email protected].
If you've ever had an idea for making Downtown Columbus even better, this is an opportunity to bring that idea to the table.
