Meet the Musician: Ethian Alejandro
Music has been part of Ethian Alejandro's life since he was 14 years old, but the journey that followed has brought together cultures, influences and musical traditions that have helped him develop a sound all his own.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Ethian began his musical journey as a teenager and has remained dedicated to music ever since.
Years later, he discovered a particularly strong connection with the guitar while studying under professor Enrique Vilches, a mariachi musician who became an important influence on both Ethian's technique and the direction he would take as a musician.
Through that mentorship, Ethian began exploring traditional Cuban music while continuing to develop his own musical interests. Along the way, reggae became another important influence — one that continues to help shape his sound and creative expression today.
The result is a musical perspective that brings together different traditions and experiences: the sounds of his Cuban roots, lessons learned through the influence of mariachi and his own passion for reggae.
It's exactly the kind of musical discovery Fall for the Arts was created to encourage.
Throughout the day, audiences will have an opportunity to move from venue to venue and experience musicians with very different backgrounds, styles and stories. Ethian brings yet another sound to that mix — and an opportunity for festivalgoers to experience how music can cross cultures while still remaining deeply connected to where an artist began.
