Meet the Musicians: Los Juniors
Sometimes a band begins with years of planning. Other times, two musicians meet, discover a shared love of music and decide to see where it takes them.
For Los Juniors, that second story is still unfolding.
Juan and David are both Mexican-American, both were born in Columbus and both share a deep connection to music and culture. But surprisingly, the two only met in March 2025.
At the time, David was already performing with another Mexican band that Juan enjoyed listening to. Their introduction quickly developed into a friendship built around their shared love of music, and before long, the two decided to take a chance and form a band of their own.
Los Juniors was born.
Even more impressive? Both musicians are self-taught.
Juan is just 14 years old and a student at Lakeview High School, but his musical journey began when he was only 10 and first picked up the accordion. In just a few years, he has developed his skills while also gaining valuable experience performing in front of audiences.
David also began playing music at a young age. He plays the bajo quinto, a traditional five-course guitar that plays an important role in regional Mexican music, adding rhythm and depth to the duo's sound.
When they're together, accordion, bajo quinto and vocals combine to create music firmly connected to their Mexican-American heritage.
Los Juniors began by performing at family gatherings and parties, taking every opportunity they could to play together and improve. Their dedication is already paying off as their bookings begin expanding to larger events.
And they're doing it while balancing plenty outside of music.
Juan continues his studies at Lakeview High School, while David attends college, studies Mechanical Engineering and works in Lincoln. Despite busy schedules, both remain committed to the band and to seeing where their shared dream might lead.
When they're not performing, their priorities are pretty simple: family, music and continuing to improve their craft.
Los Juniors may be at the beginning of their journey, but that's part of what makes seeing them perform during Fall for the Arts so exciting.
You aren't simply hearing a band.
You're getting a chance to discover two young Columbus musicians as their story is just getting started.
