Business Spotlight: Chopper's Computers Keeping Columbus Connected Since 2003
From One-Man Shop to Downtown Mainstay
For more than two decades, Chopper's Computers has been a trusted name in computer and device repair in Trackside District - Downtown Columbus. What began in 2003 as a one-person operation on the main level of the Pioneer Plaza has grown into a thriving, family-run business now located at 2710 13 Street, right next to Picket Fence.
Originally founded by Chopper, the business was born from a desire for independence and a passion for technology. While working at Ernst Auto, Chopper began taking care of the company's computers and soon realized he wanted to make that work his full-time career. In time, his wife Alice joined him in the business and in 2015 she officially took ownership. Today, Chopper, Alice and Marty work side by side to keep computers, phones, and tablets running smoothly for their customers.
Reliable Repairs and Modern Solutions
Chopper's Computers offers a full range of repair services from hardware and software fixes to cell phone and table screen repairs. They also carry refurbished computers for budget-friendly options and can help customers order new systems when it's time for an upgrade. And while most people know them for their PC expertise, not everyone realizes they also service Mac computers, including MacBooks and iMacs.
Dedicated to staying up to date with the latest operating systems and technology, the team continues to adapt to the ever-changing world of computers and phones. As Chopper looks toward retirement in the future, he hopes the next generation might find inspiration to continue his work or even take over the shop themselves.
Rooted in the Downtown Community
Chopper's Computers has been part of the downtown fabric from the very beginning, contributing to the area's vitality. Over the years, they've watched downtown Columbus grow and thrive. "We constantly hear from people saying they couldn't find a parking place without parking a block away," Alice said. "It's great that there are so many people coming downtown to shop."
In addition to serving customers, the business supports local schools and churches when possible and often collaborates with other local businesses especially cell phone stores and offices that refer clients for service.
A Building with History
The building itself also carries a bit of Columbus history. Once used to fit tires on Model Ts arriving by train, it later housed the Oasis Bar and then Crackers to Caviar, a coffee shop, before becoming home to Chopper's Computers. The owners hope to do some facade updates in the future, continuing their tradition of investing in both their business and the downtown community.
