Business Spotlight: Platte Valley Archers
A Downtown Tradition with a Steady Aim
For nearly five decades, Platte Valley Archers, Inc. has been quietly shaping skill, focus, and confidence right in the heart of downtown Columbus. Founded in the mid-1970s, the club was created with a clear mission: to promote the sport of archery in the Platte Valley and to offer youth an alternative, discipline-building sport that welcomes all experience levels.
What makes Platte Valley Archers truly special is that is has always called downtown home.
Rooted in Downtown Columbus
Over the years, the club has occupied several memorable downtown spaces -- from the upstairs of Columbus Tour and Travel at 13th Street and 25th Avenue, to the basement of the City Office Building and today, a space they proudly own at 1261 26th Ave.
This long-standing downtown presence reflects the club's deep commitment to the community and its desire to remain a visible, accessible part of Columbus for generations to come.
Facilities That Support Every Archer
Platte Valley Archers offers members access to tools and space that support learning, growth and precision including:- A 20 yard indoor archery range

- An arrow cutter for custom arrow fitting
These resources allow archers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned shooters, to practice safely and confidently year-round.
Investing in Youth and Education
Youth involvement has always been at the heart of the club's mission. Platte Valley Archers actively works with local organizations to introduce archery to young people across the community.
Their outreach includes:- Hosting the Platte County 4-H Archery Club
- Providing instruction for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
- Offering archery programming for Cub Scout Day Camp
Each January, the club also launches an 8-week Beginning Youth Archery Class for ages 7-17, giving young archers a structured, supportive introduction to the sport.
A Signature Event: The Annual 300-3D Shoot
One of the club's biggest and most anticipated events is the Annual 300-3D Shoot, held at Ag Park on the last weekend in January. The event draws archers together for friendly competition, skill-building, and community connection, highlighting the club's role not just as a practice space, but as a gathering place for archery enthusiasts across the region.
Platte Valley Archers Inc. is proud to work with several local businesses that help keep the club operating through financial support, materials and services. These partnerships are essential to maintaining the facility and ensuring programming remains accessible.
As a unique downtown organization, the club hopes to continue growing its membership, ensuring that archery and this long standing downtown institution remains a part of Columbus for years to come.
